Nova Credit and Yardi Partner to Accelerate Income and Asset Verification for Affordable Housing

New integration replaces weeks of manual verification with an automated process that completes in minutes, helping operators house families faster and reduce costly vacancy delays.

NEW YORK CITY, March 17, 2026 — Across the country, affordable housing units sit vacant while families wait, not because homes don't exist, but because the systems meant to connect them can't keep up. In New York City, public housing vacancies doubled to over 6,700 while 165,000 households wait for a home. The causes vary, but one bottleneck runs through nearly every affordable housing program: income and asset verification.

According to affordable housing operators, verifying a single household's eligibility still takes four to eight weeks of document collection, manual cross-referencing, and back-and-forth with applicants, a process that has caused headaches for years. Every week of delay is a week that a qualified family isn't housed, a unit isn't generating revenue, and a compliance team is buried in paperwork instead of serving residents.

Nova Credit and Yardi®, an industry-leading provider of real estate software, today announced that Nova Credit’s Eligibility Compass, a purpose-built income and asset verification solution for affordable and public housing, is now live through Yardi Verification Services. The integration gives Yardi operators a faster, more reliable way to verify applicant eligibility directly within the platform they already use.

Unlike multifamily screening, where operators confirm an applicant earns enough, affordable housing requires proving applicants earn below specific limits while accounting for every source of income and assets.

Eligibility Compass replaces the manual cycle with a guided, mobile-first experience. Applicants connect their bank accounts and the system automatically identifies income streams and assets. Eligibility Compass then verifies those income sources using the most efficient and compliant method, cross-references data sources to automatically catch discrepancies, and delivers a unified verification report designed to meet compliance requirements.

The process typically completes in minutes and results in a complete income and asset certification. For operators who were using previous technology solutions, early results indicate up to a 3.5x improvement in end-to-end verification completion rates when compared to their previous technology solutions, helping teams process applications faster and move families into housing sooner.

"Affordable housing teams spend weeks verifying income and eligibility through manual documentation. Meanwhile, families wait, and units sit empty. Eligibility Compass was built to close that gap, so operators can focus on housing families rather than chasing paperwork," said Akaash Gupta, Head of Tenant Screening at Nova Credit.

Nova Credit already provides income verification tools to the broader property management industry through its Income Navigator product, which integrates with property management platforms including Yardi. Eligibility Compass extends those capabilities specifically to affordable housing programs, where verification requirements are significantly more complex.

"Affordable housing compliance is getting more complex, not less. Integrating Nova Credit's verification infrastructure directly into Yardi gives our clients access to bank data, payroll connections, and automated cross-referencing, all within the platform they already use. That's a meaningful step forward for the industry," said Chris Voss, Vice President at Yardi.

The United States faces a shortage of 7.2 million affordable rental homes for its lowest-income households, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition's 2026 Gap report. For the units that do exist, most programs require income and asset verification not just at move-in, but again throughout the resident’s tenure, multiplying the operational burden for compliance teams already stretched thin. By digitizing that workflow, the partnership aims to help housing providers reduce administrative burden, shorten certification timelines, and get families into homes faster.

Eligibility Compass is available now to Yardi clients through Yardi Verification Services.

The partnership will be formally announced at the Yardi Affordable Housing Forum beginning March 18, 2026, in Boston.
